I had been quilting along after multiple thread breaks. I got an entire wing quilted and then this... This mess was not present with the other thread breaks. :( |
Linking up with Lorna for Let's Bee Social. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!
That usually happens to me if I re-thread it with the presser foot down. There's a tensioning clamp that you have to get the thread between to actually be threaded properly. Also, if your needle is dull it could be taking a little longer to get through the fabric and throwing off the timing. So change the needle, and re thread, making sure the presser foot is up. Hope that helps! I know its frustrating!!!!
ReplyDeleteCheck the bobbin, too, and re-thread it, if necessary. I use to push up the thread from bobbin and hold both of threads in my (right) hand when starting to sew. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so frustating. Try a different top thread on a sample quilt, change the needle even if it is a new one.....
ReplyDeleteMy Janome used to get the thread caught on the feed dogs while FMQ. I solved that by quilting with the feed dogs up. You can set the stitch length to 0. Anything is worth trying once. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh bummer! For me, that looks like a bobbin case that needs de-linted. Or my machine needs oiled. Have you tried some sample quilting to see if you can help diagnose the problem (and avoid lots of quilt frustration)?
ReplyDeleteI am in agreement with all of the above suggestions. One other thing you might try, which I learned from the HandiQuilter video, is to remove lint from under the bobbin case whatchamahooey where you feed the thread after you slide it into the first notch in the bobbin case. In the video, she put a pin under that thin metal flap thingie (love my tech terms I know) and gently lifted ever so slightly, and slid the pin back out and whoa! there was a fair bit of flattened lint trapped under it. I've done it for my Avanté a few times. Other than the suggestions above and this, if you indeed have a bobbin case, it might be a timing (ouch trip to the hospital) issue...
ReplyDeleteI had similar issues with my Janome. The repair guy also said to make sure the pressure foot is UP when threading... it releases the tension that gets screwed up if you dont. I'm sorry this is happening with your AMAZING quilting!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say change the needle too....
ReplyDeleteAs some of the others have said, I find that if I thread the needle with the presser foot up, I'm less likely to get threads snapping ... hope that works for you - so frustrating, I know ..
ReplyDeleteI always run through the "TNT" check list. Check the tension, needle and thread. If that does not solve it check to make sure the bobbin is in correctly. Also if you have not checked lately make sure under your throat plate is cleaned out--build up can effect the needle when picking up the bottom thread! Hope this helps-my enabler! :)
ReplyDeleteI think I am way out of my league here, but have you changed your needle lately?, or might you want a different size? That was actually happening to me a while back and I went to a brand new, different size needle and it sure seemed to take care of it. I hope you get it figured out...there is nothing more aggravating!!!
ReplyDeleteI had this issue with some thread. So I used different kind and problems solved but maybe it was something else. who knows.
